A love story and a dream
started with two strangers meeting at summer camp.
WHO WE ARE
We are Gabe and Kelly Chabot (pronounced shuh-BOE).
We both grew up in Connecticut and live here with our 4 kids and dog. New England holds a special place in our hearts not only where we grew up but where we see the most need for a Catholic summer camp. That is the ultimate goal and this blog is just the beginning of that wonderful adventure.
Between the two of us, we have over 20 years of camp experience. We have experience in just about every area of camp; from grounds maintenance, kitchen staff, camp counselors, and waterfront crew, all the way to camp director. Also, Kelly graduated from college with a degree in Recreation, Sport and Wellness, and also minored in Non-Profit business. And Gabe has worked professionally in Marketing and has used his creative talents through business promotion, design, and most passionately, writing.
OUR FAITH JOURNEY
Growing up Protestant, we got to meet at a beautiful Christian camp right on a lake. Those Christian roots are what formed our early years and grew us into the teens that made the decision to be together as we grew up. Learning together and searching together, our faith journey took us all the way to Australia and back to Connecticut where we became Catholic in 2016. We cherish the foundations of our youth and saw what passion for the faith can do. Now mixed with the beautiful traditions and fullness of the faith, the Catholic Church brought an increased excitement to our hearts to have an even deeper relationship with Christ.
Our goal is to pass on that same excitement of the Catholic faith to our own family, and many more families, since that is where we feel called to share the love of Christ. This conversion mixed deeply with our passion for summer camp is what led us to the desire to one day start a Catholic summer camp.
We hope this blog offers excitement in the Catholic faith, encouragement in your walk with God, entertainment for the rainy days, and a loving embrace for all who read these words.
WHAT’S THE GOAL?
Our hope is that this blog creates momentum and a community that can move along our goals of developing a Catholic summer camp for kids in New England. This is just the start of our journey to use what God has given us and give back to others in as many ways as we can.
We want Anchorwood to be a rolling snowball that picks up speed and does more and more for the kingdom of God. Knowing that it starts as a blog but then hopefully grows into a community, that grows into the need for a summer camp, and then grows into something more.
We want to be the active hands pursuing the corporal works of mercy to care for God’s children.
